📔 Editor's Letter - June 2022
Hello and welcome!
Summer is officially here and the weather has been exceptionally nice. This is great news for someone who enjoys cycling, but when it comes to publishing a blog, it makes sitting inside behind a computer on a warm sunny day very, very difficult. Nevertheless, I persevered and worked my best to bring you some of my latest content which I hope you'll find of interest.
My cover story for this issue is for a project which I'm excitied to be working on again — The Taff Trail. Earlier this spring I rode up to Pontsticill Reservoir to pick up where I had left off four years ago and despite a slight detour and several distractions, I was soon exploring one of the more remote areas of this trail. Take a look at my latest efforts where I cycle around the back of the reservoir and return down through the Taf Fachen Valley to Merthyr Tydfil in; "Upper Pontsticill & Taff Valley".
At the end of last year I found that I had five sets of photos which I had taken over the course of several longer rides and I just felt that these images deserved some sort of recognition — somewhere. I'm attempting to tie-up all these loose ends in my second feature for this issue, which I've titled rather obviously; "5x / 2021".
It's an ongoing project (and one I'll be working on for quite a while), but I want to update all of my Rides to Remember to fit the new redesign. For this issue, I've re-edited 75 photos and re-written some of the text to re-publish "Mad Explore & Discovery". It was quite a surprising adventure and I'm rather proud of this one.
I've also included several departments which have seen the benefits of the re-design. This month I've got three areas for you to explore. First, I have my newest Route to Ride; Raglan Ramble. I worked on this excellent route for nearly 10 months and it's the first of several I plan to develop over the coming year. Next I've put together a simple gallery of images that I think are my; Best of 2020. And lastly, for all the spreadsheet aficionado's, I've built a page to highlight the bikes I ride in; 2022 Rides by Bike.
Of course I've got a couple of links to some interesting content I discovered on the web. (When not riding our bikes, we read about riding bikes, right?) The first link is to a video that just calms my soul and nurishes my mechanical spirit: Rusted 1970's Bike Restoration. The second link is to an article I ran across on the BBC News site that I find quite humbling. Check out: Putting Life into Perspective
And that's about it... I hope you enjoy what I've put together for this year's third issue and will continue visiting my little world of cycling in Wales. If you've any questions or issues you'd like to share, do not hesitate to contact me. I'd love to hear from ya!
Thanks again for all your support and encouragement. Your readership means everything. 🚲
