📔 Editor's Letter - April 2022
Hello Again!
Welcome back to our second issue of the newly re-designed Bike Wales for 2022. I am glad to report that Spring has finally arrived after a very difficult February and March. Now that it's mid-April, the weather has improved wonderfully — making it terribly difficult to work on this blog, I might add! But I've pulled together some rides along with lots of images, maps, and charts which I hope you'll find of interest.
With that said, I have to admit that I'm still trudging through several reports from 2021 that I failed to write last year. Coupled with implimenting the re-design, I didn't have time to get everything completed, so you'll see that the first two new features I have to offer for this issue; The Vale of Usk II and The Wye Valley Greenway are both from rides which I made during the latter half of 2021.
The third feature I'm highlighting in this issue isn't new at all! It is in fact one that I've merely updated for the new design. Brecon & Beyond is a report from my "Routes to Remember" section and as such deserves the full effects of our new design - most notably; larger images. I hope you'll take the time to go back with me a few years to appreciate this magical ride with newly edited photos.
As per my usual efforts to encourage readers to browse the various parts of this blog, I'm including several departments which have seen the benefits of the re-design. My Rides now features a Ride Reports by Year page going all the way back to 2012. I've also expanded my Charts section with a Solitaires Overview page which compiles and consolidates all my metric centuries from 2016 to the present. And lastly, I've added a new set of images to my Gallery section which showcases a bicycle very dear to my heart; 1979 TREK 412.
Of course I've got a couple of links to some fantastic content I discovered on the web. (That's what we do right?... surf the Internet looking for cool bicycle stuff!) The first link is to a video that is perhaps the best cycle touring video I've ever seen (full on platitudes!). From the cinematography to the story telling; this fella's entire approach is amazing. Be sure to watch: Two Years on a Bike. Then I'm always keen to read what Tom's Bike Trip has to offer and his take on touring bikes and the state of cycle touring in 2022 is an interesting read. Check out: What's the Best Touring Bike? (2022)
It's an exciting year and still yet an early year. I've many new reports to write and many, many photos to edit. I hope you enjoy this issue and continue visiting our little world of cycle touring in Wales. If you've any questions or issues you'd like to share, do not hesitate to contact me. I'd love to hear from ya!
Thanks again for all your support and encouragement. Your readership means everything. 🚲
